International strategy

The UPJV's international strategy is based on three key areas: offering a personalised welcome ; the internationalisation of training programmes and modules; developing the highest quality of research based on partnerships and submitting applications to calls for international projects.

The International Relations Commission

The International Relations Commission meets once a quarter. It defines, implements and monitors the actions carried out within the framework of the UPJV's international strategy; it reviews the progress of the various working groups and ensures their follow-up. It can also meet extraordinarily depending on the current situation.

This commitment is expressed at several levels:

With regard to the hosting of students, the UPJV has been awarded the Campus France label. In 2020, it was awarded 2* for the quality of its welcome as part of the "Bienvenue to France" (‘Welcome to France‘) campaign.

Students as well as researchers and lecturers also have access to the various courses offered by the French as a Foreign Language Centre (Centre FLE), accredited in 2019.
The Centre is also active in the training of migrant students hoping to study in higher education and offers them innovative training courses, while at the same time training the volunteer trainers from the numerous associations in the Hauts-de-France region.

It also seeks to host researchers and teacher-researchers in the best possible conditions. To this end, it has opened a Euraxess service centre, which helps researchers prepare for their stay and offers them a personalised welcome on their arrival and during their stay at the UPJV.

As an active member of the Erasmus+ programme, the UPJV has developed 265 Erasmus partnerships which allows it to offer targeted mobilities of their choice to its students. It emphasises the quality of these partnerships: each mission is an opportunity for in-depth work, in order to develop the full potential of a collaboration initiated most often by a Faculty Training and Research Unit (UFR) to extend to other training or research sectors.

The UPJV has thus been able to set up an Erasmus Mundus Master's degree, MESC+ (Materials for energy storage and conversion) involving 5 universities from 4 European countries (France, Poland, Slovenia and Spain), 2 universities from the United States and Australia, a European research institute (ALISTORE), the French network on energy storage (RS2E), the Slovenian national institute of chemistry (NIC) and a leading research centre in Spain (CIC Energigune). The Arts Faculty Training and Research Unit is preparing to submit a new Erasmus Mundus Master's project, aiming in particular at Brazil. These collaborations are supported by a "European Networks" officer who is working to strengthen partnerships in Europe around three strong axes Internationalisation as a vector of training and education, in an inclusive perspective, attentive to all forms of fragility (socio-economic, disability), Erasmus as a promoter of interculturality and the feeling of belonging to Europe, and finally the reinforcement of digital technology, a programme for opening up to the world, in the service of the change of pedagogical paradigm towards hybridisation, a new influence in training programmes and modules and on-going modernisation of services.

The UPJV also offers a catalogue of courses in English for both incoming and outgoing students, with a view to promoting language prowess and multilingualism. A specific partnership programme (Programme d'études en France) has been set up with the DAAD to encourage exchanges with German universities. The ‘Languages Centre’ (Maison des Langues) offers students at the university the opportunity to develop their language skills.

At the same time, the UPJV actively participates in the development of the French-speaking world, in particular through its delocalised courses in Europe (Budapest), Africa (Aller, Fez, Tangiers) and Asia (Hanoi).

Thanks to the activity of its researchers and the support of its research networks, the UPJV regularly submits responses to various international calls for projects, PHC, Interreg, H2020/Horizon Europe.

Its two doctoral schools bears witness to this international openness, with nearly 50% of doctoral students being international.
